On January 8th, I hit 10 R / 7 L kettlebell snatches with the 32kg Kettlebell.
Originally I just wanted to see how many I could do, and once I passed the count of 5, even though I had no initial set goal, I knew I wanted at least 15-20.
Once the first set was over, I decided I’d train for 20/20.
20 days later I’m at 13 R / 11 L and as the video states I haven’t done a lot of focused training toward this specific goal due to last weekend’s jiu-jitsu tournament.
In fact, I’m more proud that these girls can work with the 32kg than I was when I learned I could work with it.
Over the past 10-13 weeks, while following this program, they have completely crushed my expectations.
They have worked so hard, and they have learned that not only are they capable of being this strong, they’ve experienced it, and they know they can do more.
Pride.
Empowering.
Accomplishment.
Excitement.
I know how they feel, through the struggles to get there…then actually achieving the goal…and finally setting new goals to repeat the entire process.
I hope your New Year is heading off in the right direction.
I waited to post this month’s workout, until the hype of the New Year was out of the way. So now, two weeks in to the New Year, you have a brand new set of exercises to follow.
You have two options with this workout.
You can either do all of the lower body exercise sets back to back and then transition to the upper body exercise sets back to back, or you can alternate back and forth between the two.
Option 1
1a) Romanian Deadlift 3 x 10
1b) Bodyweight Squats 3 x 10
1c) Lateral Lunges 3 x 10/10
2a) Dumbbell High Pulls 3 x 10/10
2b) Pledge Push Ups 3 x 10
2c) Contralateral Planks 3 x 10/10
Option 2
1a) Romanian Deadlift 3 x 10
1b) Bodyweight Squats 3 x 10
1c) Lateral Lunges 3 x 10/10
1d) Dumbbell High Pulls 3 x 10/10
1e) Pledge Push Ups 3 x 10
1f) Contralateral Planks 3 x 10/10
As you progress try increasing the sets, add a few reps, or increase the weight.
I love accepting new challenges, it keeps my training interesting and gives me something to strive for.
Lately, at the gym I’ve been fortunate enough to work with a group of girls who are really interested in strength training, and I have seen them make amazing progress.
It isn’t just gifted to them, they work really hard for it.
They know they work hard.
They also suffer some disappointment and frustration, as we all have.
It’s almost self reflective to watch them train each week, to see how excited they get with their progress. To see how encouraging and supportive they are of each other. To see the frustration from a bad lift.
I’ve been through all of it, just as they are going through it.
They’ve become an inspiration to me. Each day I work with them, I want to train with them. As much as I enjoy being their coach, I also appreciate their efforts and want them to see me succeed and even fail.
So I set up some challenges to conquer myself. With their support and drive, I know I’ll succeed.
So for now my goal is 20/20 kettlebell snatches with the 32kg.
